Apple Mac Mini Core 2 Duo Hack For Windows 10

Thanks for this tip. I've been looking for solutions for a school with 50+ Macs that Apple has abandoned and which require newer software (the school has major issues such as the new iWork incompatibility with older iWork packages, lack of security updates and increasing inability to run the latest Mac software). Since Apple can no longer supply the school with updates to maintain compatibility with newer software, and since the school can by no means afford to upgrade more than a few of the systems they had me begin researching alternative solutions (cheap machines that will be used almost solely for google docs, for example). The few administrators and board members that were upgraded this year to newer Macs are also so disappointed with Lion/ML/Mavericks that they had already begun thinking of moving away from Apple. We just received a very inexpensive quote from MS for an educational site license for Window 8 and I was investigating compatibility when what do I find here on good-old MacFixit but a post from someone doing the exact same thing on a small scale. I'm glad to find that this solution might work for us. It's a sad sad day, though, you have to admit, when the solution to finding proper support for your Macs is to turn to MS.. Never imagined I would see that day come..
For those interested, I currently, and with perfect results, run Windows 64bit on my MacPro 1,1 (another abandoned system). The trick is NOT installing any of Apple's drivers. Just install Windows as you would on any PC and it seems to work fine. You might miss a couple features such as full apple keyboard support, bit just plug in a standard keyboard and you are all set.

You can run Mavericks on Mac Pro 1,1 & 2,1 and some others using Tiamo's modified boot.efi and some plist changes, as long as you have an upgraded video card supported by a 64 bit driver.
